Artist: Simon Mee
Simon Mee is the rising star of the Brisbane art scene with wins in
the 2001 Church of England Grammar School ,Emerging Art Award (the major
Contemporary Art Award in Queensland), 1997 Logan City Art Award, the 1998
Churchie Award for Drawing and national coverage with one of his Blinky
Bill paintings at the Brisbane City Gallery exhibition, Typically Australian
(curated by controversial historian and social commentator, Humphrey
McQueen).
Sex, horror and violence hide in elegant scenes which, at first
glance, are benign and innocent. The works are painted with a technical
brilliance, intellect and wit honed during his time at Queensland University
of Technology where he studied for his Bachelor of Arts degree and Master
of Fine Arts.
A book of his drawings was published in 1999.
